Poland files permit for first nuclear plant with three US reactors
SUMMARY
Poland is progressing towards its first nuclear power plant, crucial for energy security. Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ) has submitted a construction permit to the National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA), featuring over 40,000 pages of documentation, including a Preliminary Safety Analysis Report.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk highlighted this as "significant progress." The Westinghouse Electric Company AP1000 reactor design has been selected for the plant in Choczewo.
PEJ expects the project to stabilize energy prices and foster industrial growth, aiming for the first concrete pour by 2028, with operations starting in 2036. The PAA has 24 months to review the application before proceeding.
