Pentagon says 'transgender troops' are disqualified from service without an exemption
SUMMARY
An internal Pentagon memo revealed a new policy from the Trump administration regarding transgender service members. The memo states that those diagnosed with gender dysphoria are generally barred from military service unless they secure an exemption. "Service members who have a current diagnosis or history of... gender dysphoria are disqualified from military service," it notes.
Exemptions require 36 months of stability in the service member's sex, no attempts to transition, and adherence to standards associated with their sex. The memo is facing legal challenges, with complaints about potential bias from the presiding judge in the related case.
