UK government pays landlords to house illegals

SUMMARY

The UK Home Office, led by Labour, is shoving British citizens aside to house asylum seekers, with illegal Channel crossings spiking 44.5% this year to 9,638 arrivals. Serco, a private contractor, is dangling five-year, taxpayer-paid rent deals to landlords for over 7,000 properties, covering utilities and council tax—£14 per night versus £145 for hotels. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp slams it: “This is taking away homes that hard-working, tax-paying Britons… need.”

Councils and charities blast the policy for jacking up rents and locking out 1.3 million Brits on housing waitlists. A council leader fumes, “It’s Serco who are encouraging landlords to exploit taxpayers.” The Refugee Council’s Enver Solomon calls the system “deeply flawed.” Labour deflects, noting it’s been around since 1999, saying, “Labour inherited a system in complete chaos.” Yet, 38,000 asylum seekers still clog hotels, costing £5.5 million daily. The Home Office brags about removing 24,000 migrants, but critics say it’s prioritizing illegals over locals.
