Carrier USS Gerald R. Ford suffers fire, at least 2 sailors injured

SUMMARY

A fire broke out on the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) on March 12 but has since been extinguished. The fire started in the ship’s laundry spaces and was confirmed not to be combat-related. Two Sailors received treatment for minor injuries. The ship remains operational with no damage to its propulsion.

Currently, the Ford is in the northern Red Sea as part of Operation Epic Fury against Iran. The carrier, deployed since June 2025, may soon break the post-Vietnam record for carrier deployment days. If it stays until early May, it could approach 300 days at sea, matching historical deployments from the Vietnam War era.
