US issues sanctions on family members, associates of Venezuela's Maduro

The United States recently imposed sanctions on seven associates and family members of Nicolás Maduro and his wife. The U.S. Treasury accused them of supporting Maduro’s "rogue narcostate." Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated, “We will not allow Venezuela to continue flooding our nation with deadly drugs.”

The Trump administration has increased pressure on Maduro, labeling him a threat to security in the hemisphere. This includes military buildups and strikes on drug vessels. Sanctions targeted relatives of Carlos Erik Malpica Flores, linked to corruption in Venezuela's oil industry. Maduro's family members include his mother-in-law and sister-in-law, who also faced sanctions.
