Afghan asylum seekers charged over alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl in UK town
Two Afghan asylum seekers, Ahmad Mulakhil and Mohammad Kabir, both 23, face charges related to the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. Mulakhil is charged with rape, while Kabir faces additional charges of aiding and abetting rape, strangulation, and kidnap.
Local community members expressed shock and accused police of a possible cover-up regarding the suspects' asylum seeker status to prevent community unrest.
Sources have told the Mail on Sunday that Warwickshire Police advised local councillors and officials not to reveal the asylum seeker background of the two suspects, for fear of 'inflaming community tensions'.
The girl was attacked in Cheverel Street, Nuneaton, between 8.30 and 9.45 pm on July 22. There was no publicity about the horrendous attack.
Warwickshire Police maintained that sharing sensitive details could affect ongoing investigations. Both men are in custody, with court appearances scheduled for August 26.
