Erich von Däniken dies age 90

Erich von Däniken, the Swiss author known for his book "Chariots of the Gods?", has died at age 90. He gained fame for suggesting that ancient civilizations were influenced by extraterrestrial beings. His books, beginning with "Chariots of the Gods?" in 1968, sold nearly 70 million copies and spurred interest in UFOs and ancient astronauts.

Although his theories were widely criticized by the scientific community, they became part of popular culture, inspiring films and TV shows like "The X-Files." Von Däniken's controversial claims continued to attract followers despite challenges to their validity. He is survived by his wife and children.
