Britons urged to eat less meat to hit latest net zero target

SUMMARY

Britain must reduce meat and dairy consumption by up to 50% to meet new net zero targets, according to the Climate Change Committee (CCC). The CCC suggests substituting these products with plant-based options by 2050 and has urged the government to cut CO2 emissions by 81% by 2035.

The committee's chairman stated that changing diets is crucial for achieving this goal. Suggestions for reducing meat consumption include cutting livestock subsidies and regulating meat advertising. The CCC reports that the UK is not on track to meet its 2030 climate targets. Concerns about public unrest and the impact on food production were raised by industry representatives.
