Idaho Coeur d'alene shooting suspect identified as Wess Roley

Wess Roley has been identified as the gunman behind a deadly ambush on Canfield Mountain, Idaho, where two firefighters were killed and a third critically injured. Roley reportedly set a brush fire to lure the firefighters into a trap and began shooting when they arrived.

The attack started around 1:21 p.m., coinciding with emergency calls about the fire. Chaos ensued as two firefighters were fatally shot, and a third was airlifted for emergency surgery.

Sheriff Bob Norris described it as “a total ambush.” Law enforcement returned fire and ultimately found Roley dead near a firearm. The motive remains under investigation, and authorities are examining his background. Idaho's governor condemned the act as a “heinous, direct assault” on public servants.
