'40 years jail term'
Pakistani weapons smuggler jailed for 40 years over death of Navy Seals
SUMMARY
Muhammad Pahlawan, the Pakistani captain of a smuggling ship, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for his role in the deaths of two US Navy SEALs during a raid off Somalia's coast. The SEALs drowned after falling into the water while attempting to board Pahlawan's vessel, which was carrying parts for ballistic missiles intended for Houthi rebels.
Testimonies revealed that Pahlawan ordered his crew to lie and prepare to destroy the ship to hide evidence. He had previously conducted two arms runs successfully and was paid about £25,000 for the latest smuggling attempt.
Pahlawan was convicted on multiple counts, including terrorism, with sentences totaling 40 years.
