Think tanks says punish EV owners who charge at peak times

SUMMARY

The Resolution Foundation suggests that electric vehicle (EV) owners should face higher electricity charges for evening charging to promote overnight use. Charging during peak hours, especially from 4:30 PM to 8 PM, costs about twice as much as off-peak hours. The think tank warns that rising EV adoption could spike delivery costs, increasing bills for all. They advocate for replacing the current price cap with variable pricing based on usage.

Author Zachary Leather stated that charging at night could save typical EV owners about £120 yearly. The Foundation also supports a zonal pricing system to adjust prices by region. However, they caution that reforms should not penalize low-income households with rigid energy needs.
