Climate change threatens British way of life

SUMMARY

UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband has warned that climate change poses a significant threat to the British way of life. He cited a recent Met Office report revealing that Britain now experiences twice as many extremely hot days than in the late 20th century. The report indicates there are now 42 days annually that exceed the 1961-1990 average by over 5C.

Miliband stated,

“Our British way of life is under threat.Whether it is extreme heat, droughts, flooding, we can see it with our own eyes, that it’s already happening, and we need to act.”

The report also highlighted a rise in severe weather, including more frequent rainfall and rising sea levels.

Critics, like Richard Tice, dismissed Miliband's claims as alarmist. Overall, the study noted an increase in extreme weather events, affecting both winter and summer conditions in the UK.
