Iran-linked hackers claim breach of FBI director's personal email; DOJ official confirms hack
The Department of Justice has confirmed that FBI Director Kash Patel’s personal email address was hacked.
The breach came just one day after the Iran-linked Handala Hack Team publicly claimed responsibility for penetrating the FBI and specifically Patel’s inbox. On their website the group published photographs of the director along with what they described as his resume. Handala declared that Patel “will now find his name among the list of successfully hacked victims.”
The leaked material reviewed by Reuters contains a mix of personal and professional correspondence dating between 2010 and 2019. A Justice Department official verified the compromise of Patel’s emails.
The FBI did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The hackers also did not reply to messages.
