Powerful earthquake In Afghanistan kills at least 610 people

A powerful earthquake in eastern Afghanistan has killed at least 610 people and left over 1,300 injured. The 6.0 magnitude quake struck near Jalalabad, about 17 miles away, at a depth of 5 miles, making it particularly destructive. Residents in Kabul felt aftershocks, though no casualties have been reported there.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesperson for the Taliban government, stated, “Sadly, tonight's earthquake has caused loss of life and property damage in some of our eastern provinces.” Rescue efforts are ongoing. The death toll may continue to rise as more reports come in.
