WHO says Covid origins investigation inconclusive

SUMMARY

A World Health Organization investigation into the origins of Covid-19 has not reached a conclusion due to lack of cooperation from China. An independent panel suggested that the virus likely emerged from direct transmission from bats to humans or an intermediary animal at the Wuhan wet market. Dr. Marietjie Venter noted that the market played a “significant role” in early cases.

Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus highlighted that China has not shared vital data needed for the investigation. Intelligence reports suggest the virus may have leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Other hypotheses have been explored, but all remain unproven. The WHO continues to urge transparency to prevent future pandemics.
