Ghana seeks labour mobility deal as Serbia grants 100,000 work permits

SUMMARY

Ghana is negotiating with Serbia for a portion of 100,000 work permits the country plans to issue this year. The aim is to create job opportunities for young Ghanaians and strengthen bilateral relations.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa noted, “Serbia has an ageing population and will require a labour-mobility agreement.” The agreement would focus on sectors like construction, healthcare, and agriculture.

Both countries also plan to enhance cooperation in education, with Serbia offering scholarships to Ghanaian students. The initiative is expected to reduce unemployment in Ghana while addressing Serbia’s labor shortages.
