Allianz Life says majority of customers' personal data stolen in cyberattack
SUMMARY
Allianz Life has confirmed that a malicious cyberattack in July resulted in the theft of personal data from the "majority" of its customers and employees. The breach occurred on July 16 when hackers accessed a third-party cloud-based CRM system.
Allianz Life spokesperson Brett Weinberg stated that the intruder used social engineering tactics to obtain the data. The company has 1.4 million customers, but the exact number affected by the breach is not disclosed. Allianz Life has notified the FBI and does not believe other systems were compromised. They plan to begin notifying affected individuals around August 1.
