Lutnick volunteers to testify on Epstein ties

SUMMARY

Oversight Committee over his past ties to Jeffrey Epstein.

The closed-door transcribed interview is scheduled for the coming weeks, with the transcript to be released afterward. Lutnick proactively called Oversight Chairman James Comer to offer the testimony. He has not been accused of any wrongdoing.

Lutnick, who once lived as a Manhattan neighbor to Epstein, appeared in Justice Department Epstein files released under congressional legislation.

Records show he met Epstein at his New York townhouse in 2011. The following year, in 2012, Lutnick, his wife, their children and nannies had lunch with Epstein on his private Caribbean island.

Lutnick previously claimed he severed all contact after touring Epstein’s home in 2005 and seeing a “creepy massage room.” He told the Senate Appropriations Committee last month that he “did not have any relationship with him” and “barely had anything to do with that person.”

Democrats in both the House and Senate have intensified pressure on Lutnick to turn over all records of his Epstein connections. President Trump has publicly defended him, stating “Howard would go in and do whatever he has to say. He’s a very innocent guy — doing a good job.”

Lutnick told Axios he looks forward to the testimony: “I have done nothing wrong and I want to set the record straight.”

The hearing places another senior Trump Cabinet official under congressional scrutiny over documented links to the convicted sex offender and trafficker.
