Frontier buys $31m worth of antacids for the ocean

SUMMARY

Frontier is investing $31.2 million to purchase 115,208 metric tons of carbon removal credits from Planetary, a geoengineering startup. This agreement marks Frontier's first initiative to enhance ocean alkalinity instead of the usual carbon capture methods.

Each metric ton of carbon is priced at $270, but Planetary aims to reduce this to below $100 eventually. The startup employs magnesium hydroxide, akin to antacids, to increase ocean alkalinity, aiding marine life. Currently, Planetary operates projects in Nova Scotia and Virginia to implement this method.
