Russia claims full control over Luhansk
SUMMARY
Russia claims to have taken full control of Luhansk, the first Ukrainian region to fall entirely since the invasion began. Leonid Pasechnik, a Russian-appointed official, stated that "100 percent of the region was now under the control of Russian forces." Luhansk was part of the territories annexed by Russia, though this move remains unrecognized by much of the international community.
While Russia asserts control over Luhansk, Ukraine's military is reportedly counterattacking in the northeastern Sumy region. This counteroffensive follows recent Russian advances.
Talks about the future of disputed territories are expected to play a crucial role in potential peace negotiations.
