Plane mysteriously vanishes after losing contact with air traffic control

SUMMARY

A plane in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, lost contact with air traffic control shortly after takeoff from Yogyakarta, disappearing around 12 miles into its flight to Makassar. Locals reported hearing a loud explosion, described as "sounded like burning material." The ATR 42-500 was carrying three passengers and eight crew members when it vanished.

Rescue teams, comprising 60 personnel, are searching for survivors in the area where the plane is thought to have crashed. The last signal was received at 11:20 am local time. The aircraft was used for charter flights for oil and gas operations and had a contract with the government.
