Zelensky announces next prime minister, launches government reshuffle

SUMMARY

President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Yulia Svyrydenko as Ukraine's new prime minister, marking a government reshuffle. Zelensky said, "I have proposed that Yuliia Svyrydenko lead the Government of Ukraine and significantly renew its work."

He plans to discuss cooperation with the U.S. and Europe, economic strengthening, arms production, and executive reform with her. Current Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal will need to resign for the appointment to proceed, with parliament expected to vote soon. Zelensky's party holds a majority and is likely to support the change quickly. Speculation about replacing Shmyhal has been ongoing since last summer.
