Pentagon orders more active-duty soldiers to ready for possible Minneapolis deployment
SUMMARY
The Pentagon has ordered military police soldiers from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to prepare for possible deployment to Minneapolis, where tensions are high following the shooting of a woman by an ICE officer. Several hundred soldiers are on standby as part of this prepare-to-deploy order, while the 11th Airborne Division's two battalions are also set for mobilization.
The military police could assist in law enforcement and crowd control but cannot engage in civilian law enforcement unless President Trump invokes the Insurrection Act. A Pentagon official stated, “We have nothing to announce at this time, and any tip about this is pre-decisional.”
