Supreme Court upholds law that would ban TikTok in the US

The Supreme Court has upheld a law that could lead to banning TikTok in the U.S., effective Sunday. The court stated that the law does not violate First Amendment rights. TikTok argues the law limits free speech, but justices noted it serves a significant government interest in national security.

The Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act requires TikTok to divest from its parent company, ByteDance. Failure to comply means the app will be removed from U.S. stores. Federal employees are already prohibited from using the app due to security concerns. TikTok is reportedly preparing for a shutdown in response.
