Trader Jeff Yass Is giving $100 million to fledgling 'anti-woke' University of Austin

Billionaire trader Jeff Yass is donating $100 million to the University of Austin (UATX), co-founded by Joe Lonsdale and Bari Weiss, to support its mission of fostering free expression.

Founded in 2021, UATX has about 150 students and does not charge tuition. Financial backing comes from wealthy individuals unhappy with elite university politics.

Yass, a major donor to Republican causes, is the largest benefactor, helping to raise a total of $200 million so far. UATX aims to increase its student body and create new programs while maintaining independence from government funding.

Weiss believes that a “politics of censoriousness” has infiltrated institutions. UATX plans to achieve accreditation by 2028, relying solely on donations.
