Palm Sunday procession in Jerusalem cancelled due to war

SUMMARY

The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem has canceled this year’s Palm Sunday procession due to the ongoing war in the Middle East. Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa announced that the procession from the Mount of Olives to Jerusalem is replaced by a moment of prayer. The Chrism Mass has also been postponed. Cardinal Pizzaballa noted, “ordinary celebrations open to all cannot take place.” He encouraged prayer on March 28, asking for peace amidst the conflict. He affirmed that while the community cannot gather, prayer continues in the churches of the Holy Land.
