Pentagon says 700 Marines to end Los Angeles deployment

The Pentagon confirmed the withdrawal of 700 Marines deployed in response to anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles. Chief Spokesperson Sean Parnell stated that “with stability returning to Los Angeles,” the Marines' presence was no longer needed. This follows the earlier withdrawal of 2,000 National Guard troops sent in June.

President Trump had ordered the deployment to protect federal buildings during the protests against immigration raids. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass celebrated the news, calling the deployment “unnecessary” and claiming it as a victory. Protests had diminished by mid-June, yet troops remained until now.
