Google to provide Pentagon with AI agents for unclassified work

SUMMARY

Google is integrating its Gemini AI agents into the Pentagon to automate routine tasks for its three million employees. These AI agents will initially work on unclassified networks. Under Secretary of Defense Emil Michael stated, "We’re starting with unclassified because that’s where most of the users are," with plans for classified networks in progress.

Google will provide ready-made agents for tasks like summarizing meeting notes and budgeting. Despite past protests, Michael referred to Google as a "trusted" partner.

Efficiency has been noted in military planning using AI tools, although training for personnel is insufficient, with only 26,000 trained since December.
