Britain's roads to be made narrower

Britain plans to narrow road lanes to prevent cars from overtaking cyclists. The change, revealed in recent government guidance, states that the traditional 12ft lane width is now considered unsafe for cyclists. New lanes may be reduced to as narrow as 10ft 8in.

This aims to make it clear to drivers that overtaking isn't safe, while encouraging cyclists to ride more centrally. Critics argue this will worsen traffic congestion and tensions between drivers and cyclists. The Department for Transport claims the guidance is misrepresented as a “war on motorists.”
