VW introduces monthly subscription to increase car power

SUMMARY

Volkswagen (VW) has launched a subscription service in the UK allowing customers to boost the power of certain electric ID.3 cars.

For £16.50 a month, £165 annually, or a one-time fee of £649, buyers can unlock extra engine power.

This upgrade is said to remain with the car, even if sold. A VW spokesperson claims this practice is not new, noting that "historically many petrol and diesel vehicles have been offered with engines of the same size, but with the possibility of choosing one with more potency."

Other brands, like BMW and Mercedes, have also implemented subscription services for various features.

Concerns exist among customers about paying for features that may already be available.
