SCOTUS rejects Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell's appeal of criminal conviction

SUMMARY

The Supreme Court has upheld Ghislaine Maxwell's conviction for recruiting and grooming teenage girls for Jeffrey Epstein. This decision maintains her 20-year sentence.

Maxwell's lawyers contested the conviction, arguing that a nonprosecution agreement Epstein made with Florida prosecutors should apply to her case in New York. The court had to determine if this agreement bound federal prosecutors nationwide.

The Justice Department opposed her appeal, stating that no proper permission was obtained for the agreement to apply outside its original district.

Maxwell was found guilty in 2022 of aiding Epstein with victims as young as 14, and her case has been revisited amid claims dismissing the existence of an Epstein "client list."
