Spain to launch tool to monitor hate on social media

Spain will introduce a new tool called HODIO to track hate speech on digital platforms. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced this initiative as part of a broader strategy to enhance oversight of social media companies. Last month, Spain revealed plans to regulate social media, including banning usage for younger teenagers and holding platform executives accountable for illegal content.

Sanchez emphasized that online hate is causing significant societal divisions. He stated, "We want to start talking about the impact of hate. When something is measured, it ceases to be invisible." The tool's findings will be public, allowing citizens to see how content is managed and who benefits from it.
