Iran could accept nuclear consortium on its soil, Iranian official says
Iran is open to a nuclear deal with the U.S. based on a regional uranium enrichment consortium, but it insists the consortium must be located within Iran. A senior Iranian official stated, "If the consortium operates within the territory of Iran, it may warrant consideration." This proposal, presented by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, aims to balance Iran’s requirement for domestic enrichment with U.S. concerns.
The consortium could include the U.S., Iran, and regional partners, supplying nuclear fuel while being monitored by IAEA inspectors. The U.S. proposal includes conditions like limiting Iran's enrichment capabilities and reducing its enrichment concentration to 3%. Negotiations on these terms will be crucial, and Iranian officials seek clarity on U.S. sanctions relief. A sixth round of talks may happen soon.
