'48 hours to deal'

Israel's ultra-Orthodox party Degel Hatorah announced it is leaving Netanyahu's coalition

SUMMARY

Lawmakers from the Degel HaTorah faction of United Torah Judaism plan to resign from the government over Haredi conscription issues. Rabbi Dov Lando instructed the Knesset members to leave the coalition, criticizing the government for making life harder for Torah students.

In a letter, he stated, “participation in the government and the coalition should be immediately terminated.”

While Agudat Yisrael, the other faction of UTJ, has not commented yet, it previously supported Degel HaTorah. The two factions don’t have enough seats to topple Netanyahu's government alone. They expressed they are not interested in doing so at present, giving Netanyahu time to negotiate. A party source warned he has “48 hours to deal with the issue ‘or it’s over.’”
