Brazil's ex-president Bolsonaro ordered to wear ankle monitor

SUMMARY

Brazil’s former President Jair Bolsonaro is now required to wear an electronic ankle monitor after a court order. This came as federal police searched his home and party headquarters in Brasília.

He is also prohibited from using social media or contacting individuals under investigation by the Supreme Federal Court, including his son. Bolsonaro is currently on trial for allegedly attempting a coup to overturn the 2022 election results.

Local news reported police conducted the searches on warrants from the Supreme Court. Bolsonaro's party leader claimed these actions are part of a "persecution" against conservative figures in Brazil.
