Primatologist Jane Goodall, famous for her study of chimpanzees, has died

Jane Goodall, the renowned primatologist, passed away at 91 on October 1, 2025. She died of natural causes in California during a speaking tour. Goodall revolutionized ethology and was a strong advocate for environmental conservation. She was the world's leading expert on chimpanzees, starting her groundbreaking research at age 26.

Goodall's work included naming chimps, studying their behaviors, and exploring their emotions and family dynamics. Later, she focused on climate advocacy, warning about diminishing animal habitats. She received numerous honors, including being made a dame in 2003 and awarded the US Presidential Medal of Freedom. Goodall's passion for wildlife began in her childhood, leading her to Kenya in 1957 to study primates.
