Redraw world map 'to show greatness of Africa'

African nations are urging for a new world map to highlight the true size of the continent. Current maps, especially the Mercator projection, distort Africa's dimensions, making it appear smaller compared to other regions. The African Union supports the Correct the Map campaign, which promotes the "Equal Earth" projection, claiming it represents Africa accurately as "vast, powerful, and central to our world."

Campaigners argue that this misrepresentation "reinforces harmful misconceptions about [Africa's] geopolitical and economic significance." They emphasize that Africa can contain the United States, China, and several other countries with space to spare. A better portrayal is believed to enhance understanding of Africa's importance and economic potential.
