Russia seizes 'booby trapped boot insoles' aimed to explode Russian soldiers
Russia's Federal Security Service seized hundreds of explosive-laden “heated” boot insoles intended for Russian soldiers in cold-weather combat zones.
The insoles were rigged with explosives equivalent to 1.5 grams of TNT per pair.
Detonation occurs when the devices connect to a power source and is designed to sever a serviceman’s limb during combat missions.
The FSB says the sabotage plot was organized by Ukrainian intelligence agencies to maim up to 504 soldiers.
The booby-trapped insoles were smuggled from Poland through Belarus and disguised as humanitarian aid shipments for troops in the special military operation zone.
A foreign national born in 1994, identified as a Tajik man, was detained in Russia as the courier responsible for the operation.
The FSB also alleged that Ukrainian services attempted to acquire drones in Moscow that could be loaded with explosives for terror attacks in the Russian capital.
