Pentagon to adopt Palantir's Maven AI as core US military system
Deputy Secretary of Defense Steve Feinberg has mandated that the Pentagon adopt Palantir’s Maven AI system as its core military platform. A letter issued on March 9 designates Maven as an official “program of record,” ensuring long-term funding and wider adoption across military branches by September's end.
Maven, already the U.S. military's main AI system, has facilitated thousands of targeted strikes against Iran recently. It analyzes data from various sources to pinpoint enemy assets.
However, this decision centralizes significant control over military operations within a private company. Oversight will soon fall under the Pentagon’s Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office, while future contracts will be managed by the Army. Notably, Maven depends on Anthropic’s Claude AI model, which poses a potential supply chain risk.
