Georgia PM says storming of presidential palace aimed at overthrowing gov't

Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze accused protesters of attempting to overthrow the government during unrest in Tbilisi. He suggested the European Union, specifically Ambassador Pawel Herczynski, was influencing these actions and urged him to condemn the protests.

Riot police used pepper spray and water cannons to disperse nearly 7,000 demonstrators who clashed with security forces. The protests coincided with local elections, where the ruling Georgian Dream party claimed 80% of the votes.

Following claims of rigged elections and alleged Kremlin connections of the ruling party, opposition groups have been organizing protests. Georgia remains in a political crisis amid these tensions.
