Spain to regularize 500,000 migrants

Spain approves plans to regularize 500,000 undocumented migrants by decree, differing from stricter European policies. Migration Minister Elma Saiz emphasized the positive impact of migration and stated that beneficiaries can work in any sector. The Spanish Catholic Church also praised the move, commending "an act of social justice and recognition."

The measure targets those who have lived in Spain for at least five months and applied for international protection before December 31, 2025.

An application period will open in April and last until the end of June. While the government promotes this as a step towards social justice, opposition leaders claim it will invite more illegal immigration.

Approximately 840,000 undocumented migrants currently reside in Spain, contributing to workforce needs.
