Iran arrests Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi

Iranian security forces arrested Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi at a memorial ceremony for lawyer Khosrow Alikordi. This occurred in Mashhad, where Mohammadi, granted temporary leave from prison, was attending with other activists. Her husband, Taghi Rahmani, confirmed her detention along with prominent activist Sepideh Gholian.

Alikordi had defended individuals during protests in 2022, and rights groups are calling for an investigation into his suspicious death. Witnesses reported slogans such as “Death to the dictator” during the ceremony. Mohammadi has spent most of the past decade in prison and remains a defiant voice against Iran's clerical regime.
