Nationwide egg recall issued as Salmonella outbreak sickens 79 across 7 states

A nationwide recall of eggs from August Egg Company has been issued due to a Salmonella outbreak that has sickened 79 people across seven states. No fatalities have been reported.

Affected states include California, which has the highest number of cases at 63, along with Arizona, Kentucky, Nebraska, New Jersey, Nevada, and Washington. Most patients consumed eggs prior to their illness, with many having eaten at two specific restaurants.

Whole Genome Sequencing confirmed the bacteria from patients is genetically similar, indicating a common food source. FDA inspections found Salmonella in samples from August Egg Company, leading to further traceback investigations that linked multiple brands of eggs to this outbreak.
