White House pulls nomination of David Weldon as CDC director

The White House has withdrawn the nomination of Dave Weldon for the CDC director position ahead of his confirmation hearing. The Senate HELP Committee announced the cancellation without providing an official reason. Sources indicate there weren’t enough votes for his confirmation, making the effort seem futile.

Weldon, a former congressman and medical doctor, is known for his past vaccine skepticism, including stating there were “legitimate questions” about links between vaccines and disorders like autism. He is also staunchly pro-life. Meanwhile, the committee will still hold votes for other nominees, Dr. Jay Bhattacharya and Dr. Marty Makary.
