New US rules say countries with DEI policies are infringing human rights

U.S. officials will now include enforcement of affirmative action and state subsidies for abortion as “infringements” in the State Department's annual human rights report.

New guidelines instruct officials to report on foreign arrests for speech, subsidization of abortions, and diversity policies that offer preferential treatment based on race or sex. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott emphasized that the administration will not allow violations like free speech infringements and discriminatory practices to go unchecked.

This marks a shift from traditional human rights advocacy, softening critiques of some allied nations while criticizing others selectively.
