Federal agency probes Nike over alleged discrimination against Whites

SUMMARY

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed an action against NIKE, Inc. to obtain information regarding claims of discrimination against white employees linked to the company's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) goals.

The EEOC's investigation focuses on possible intentional race discrimination practices, including unequal treatment in hiring and promotion. The agency's subpoena includes requests for information dating back to 2018, about employee selection for layoffs and DEI program specifics.

After NIKE did not comply with the request, the EEOC took legal action to enforce the subpoena.

EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas stated, “When there are compelling indications...that an employer’s DEI-related programs may violate federal prohibitions against race discrimination...the EEOC will take all necessary steps.”
