Appeals Court allows Trump to bar the Associated Press from the Oval Office

A U.S. appeals court has temporarily allowed President Trump to bar the Associated Press (AP) from some White House media events. This follows a lower court ruling that required AP journalists to be granted access to key locations while the lawsuit progresses.

The AP sued after the White House limited its access in response to the agency's continued use of "Gulf of Mexico" rather than "Gulf of America." AP's lawyers argue this restriction violates the First Amendment.

The Trump administration contends that the president has discretion over media access. The AP stands by its naming policy, stating, “the Gulf of Mexico has carried that name for more than 400 years.”
