UK, France welcome deal to resume Kurdish oil exports and reopen the Iraq-Turkey pipeline
Britain and France have praised a new agreement to resume oil exports from the Kurdistan Region, ending a long-standing deadlock.
The British embassy in Baghdad welcomed the deal as a "historic agreement" between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government of Iraq.
French Ambassador Patrick Durel stated the agreement is "in the interest of all parties."
Kurdistan's Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani called it a "great achievement" for both Kurdistan and Iraq, highlighting its potential for dialogue and constitutional solutions to disputes.
Oil exports had been suspended since March 2023 after a ruling favored Baghdad over Erbil’s independent exports.
The agreement follows months of negotiations and was announced recently.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also praised the agreement, noting US facilitation.
