UK's NHS to offer same day GP AI appointments for all patients with app

Under a new 10-year health plan, all patients will have access to same-day GP appointments through the NHS App by 2028. The app will utilize AI for remote consultations and triaging, aimed at encouraging self-management and offering a "personal health coach" experience.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting emphasized empowering patients with comprehensive health data, shifting from treatment to prevention. The app will also enable self-referrals to specialists and help patients manage their healthcare.

Concerns remain regarding access for those not digitally savvy and whether current GP capacity can meet increased demand. The plan includes broadening genomic testing and incorporating wearable technology into routine care. By 2035, most outpatient care will occur outside hospitals in community health centers.
