Vienna court decides that Sharia is also valid in Austria

A Vienna court ruled that Islamic law, or Sharia, is valid in Austria under certain conditions.

This decision stems from a civil agreement where a man committed to following Islamic norms, resulting in a payment obligation of 320,000 euros. The court found no contradiction with the Austrian law's fundamental values.

However, the application of Sharia must not violate these core principles. Notably, the court did not address the controversial criminal aspects of Islamic law, as they were not under consideration in this case.
